Longview, Washington

We arrived in Longview, Washington Sunday and after checking in at the motel headed to the Rose Center for the Arts on the campus of Lower Columbia College.  The performances in Longview were presented by the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts, a 1920's era vaudeville house that is currently undergoing renovations.  So while the renovations are being done, they are holding their events in the theater on the school's campus.

We had a show Sunday afternoon and a student matinee Monday morning and both shows went well.  The attendance was great (dearly full Sunday and sold out Monday) and the folks at Longview were terrific.

After the Monday show, we loaded back into the bus and headed east, making the turn that will eventually lead us home in three weeks.  We started out by going back south to Portland and to our east we could see both Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood.

When we reached Portland, we turned east and drove alongside the Columbia River which delineates the state line between Oregon and Washington.  I know folks probably get tired of me saying it, but the scenery was again incredible.

We stopped for lunch at Multnomah Falls, a 620-foot waterfall east of Portland.  There were even salmon spawning in the creek at the base of the falls.  We continued east through the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, backtracking the path of Lewis and Clark.

Monday was a long day and we arrived for an overnight stop in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho around 9:30.  I did a couple of loads of laundry and finally got to bed around 1:30.  This morning we'll head out for Butte, Montana where the low tonight is forecast to be 17.  Last Monday we were in San Luis Obispo and in the 70's. Time flies.
